Chalice Design using Calculus and Digital Tools

Editor’s Note: This project was done in conjunction with a course at Swarthmore College, Math 025: Further Topics in Single-Variable Calculus. taught by Dr. Rebecca Black. The idea for the project was hers, the execution is mine.

I had the opportunity this week to use topics in calculus (solids of revolution) and digital tools (Desmos, WolframAlpha, and Geogebra) to design a chalice for a hypothetical archery tournament for my Calculus II course.

The three winners of the design competition will have their chalice printed using the campus 3d printer. I’ll update this post with a picture if I win.

In the meantime, I want to post the PDF writeup for the project.
